Rise and rise of Narendra Modi

On 23^rd May- 2019, Narendra Modi created history. He has been winning elections since 2001. Perhaps the greatest self-made politician post-independence. One may agree or disagree with his policies but winning every election certainly requires a great chemistry with the people. Moreover, these wins are not in the era of booth capturing, all are in the millennia. With the advent of EVM, the democracy got strengthened in the hinterland. Cases of booth capturing reduced. The credit for this should also go to the tireless workers of Election Commission of India’s office. They are the real pillars of democracy. It is because of them free and fair election was possible in Bihar and Bengal.

Perhaps, what makes Modi a different leader is that he has travelled length and breadth of the country and this counts a lot. Take other example, Jagan Reddy was doing Padyatra for the last 5 years. Akhilesh Yadav in 2012 did some really good campaign management in the assembly election. He did cycle yatra. Compare that today when during LS -2019 election Akhilesh was only in AC busses, chartered flight and helicopter. To campaign only in UP I don’t think one needs all these stuffs. Having said that it is not the mode of campaign only that determines the success in election but other factors as well. Before 2001, Modi has travelled throughout the length and breadth of country and stayed almost in every district of India. This is a rare feat that you will find hardly in senior leaders across the party. It has given immense information about ground reality. Probably, it is this experience which helps in razor sharp implementation of many schemes such as Jan Dhan, Ujwala, Uday and many others.

In this election if you will analyze even the location of Modi’s rally you will find that they are strategically located. My own experience while travelling in the eastern UP has been shared with some of the friends’ time and again is that people for the first time believed there is a PM who can deliver. Previous govt too had Indira Awas Yojna, but the scale was very small and there is used to be rampant corruption. For the first time they are seeing scale. How will a person on ground buy the ‘chowkidar chor hai’ argument at ground level when they see that PM promised INR 6000 pa for farmers and they have received it without any corruption! Compare this with MNREGA were labours receive a fraction of promised amount! Had there been no Balakot attack still Modi would have won because of the delivery that the govt has done. More could have been done for investment and there may be many other issues were the govt could have done better but if we go by pareto principle then, we will find that govt did well.

Another issue in this election has been the role of media. There were many media houses which projected Rahul beyond his capacity. Imagine the person whom media thought was PM material lost his seat! It simply means that the media reporters were either blind or they deliberately projected him. Getting less seat is one thing but PM candidate losing his seat simply means that so called editorial writers are biased. Now, many channels are saying that Amethi was backward! Were these people blind pre 23^rd May? I wish media did exact scrutiny of Amethi as they did for Varanasi. Media did similar thing in 2014 when they tried to project Arvind Kejriwal as PM and the reality was AAP lost deposit in more than 400 seats! So that’s the level of analysis of the media. Coupta ji ( Shekhar Gupta, who infamously predicted military coup in 2013) finally in  a video has confessed that media deliberately closed its eyes and said there is no ‘wave’.

Many people are saying we need strong opposition. Well that is true. But it is the people who has given this kind of mandate. Hence accept it. Period.

When Trump became President people came out in protest! Now, this ploy is worst. If you don’t like any govt then go out and vote in against. After that accept the result. These modus operandi have been active in India too. Democracy is not in danger in Delhi were Arvind Kejriwal is having 67 MLAs out of 70! But if BJP won 303 then we need strong opposition! These thought is rubbish. You don’t vote to elect opposition. You vote to elect govt! Democracy is there in Delhi and will be in LS even if BJP wins 545 seats. So avoid fear mongering.

India is democratic country and has seen many governments both at state and central level so these whole ‘dictatorship’ issue is hokum. Its an affront to constitution if one believes so. Don’t believe what the so called ‘eminent’ or ‘padma’ journalists say that our democratic system will fail. It will remain intact no matter who come. And if you still don’t believe than I would suggest kindly, go through a book on Indian polity!

The reason Modi is winning because opposition is still countering in typical dynasty way by demeaning him, ridiculing him. This makes him stronger. A typical voter does not buy the argument that Modi is corrupt and opposition keeps on banging their head saying he is corrupt. Similarly, Manmohan Singh had an image that he is non-corrupt. Despite all the corruption in UPA-2 general public believed that he is non-corrupt. Hence, the BJP in 2014 attacked UPA on corruption not MMS. They accused MMS of being Bhishmapitamah and not acting in right way but none accused him of corruption.

For India to remain strong the dynasty must go. The party should be finished. Let another PVN come. Why do we need a family party? All major reforms in this country are done by non- Nehru- Gandhi family. Shastriji started green revolution, PVN brought economic reforms, MMS brought nuclear deal. Don’t forget that MMS threatened to resign for the deal that is why it happened. I have written previously also that the biggest crime by political party is not make people remain poor. INC has done that. The family run PMship was detrimental to the economy. Rajiv Gandhi’s short term loans lead to balance of payment crisis in 1991. Indira Gandhi’s regime in 1971 had 97% income tax! India didn’t use air force in 1962 war because ‘chacha’ ji felt it would escalate the war (Read the ‘Himalayan Blunder’)! May be for him India was in and around Delhi. This doesn’t mean that they haven’t done anything good but going by Pareto’s principle they haven’t.

To sum-up, the rise and rise of Narendra Modi is not chamatkar, rather it is the hard work that has paid off. I remember once Mohan Bhagwat said that we Indian have this ‘mai-baap’ mentality that somebody will come and help us out. We should come out of it. Modi will come and go but to make nation great to improve our lives we will have to work hard. Modi will not clean our house it is us who has to do it. In short, over reliance on govt should end. Believe in your ‘purusharth’ !
